●The Japan P.E.N. Club's statement against the sub-critical nuclear tests undertaken by the Government of the United States of America
The Ministry of Energy of the United States of America has announced that on August 18th, 2000, They had conducted an underground sub-critical nuclear test.
Needless to say, although the sub-critical nuclear tests only simulate the nuclear explosion and do not involve real chain reaction, the test itself is against the aim of "Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty".
We the Japan P.E.N. Club strongly protests against this sub-critical nuclear test carried out by the United State of America for the 4th time this year and, for 12 times in total, at the time of 55th commemoration day for the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
