●The Japan P.E.N Club issued the statement of the president, Mr. Takashi Atoda, regarding the rejection of the Goggle Books Settlement by New York Court
We, the Japan P.E.N club and the members who had filed the amicus to the court, welcomed in general the decision taken by the New York Court.The decision quoted the sentences of the amicus presented by the Japan P.E.N. club and we appreciated the decision clearly stated that the agreement based on the opt-out settlement in the internet is "not fair, adequate, and reasonable".
On the other hand, the court didn't judge any issue regarding the freedom of the expression and we, the Japan P.E.N Club will continue to watch the incoming progress of these issues.
